My very First Mother Goose
Iona Opie The origins of most Nursery rhymes relate to events in our distant past and they have been handed down from parent to children, generation to generation, for hundreds of years. Mother Goose however is a relatively new phenomenon, but when we are asked to recall our childhood memories, most of us will remember the fabulous tales of Mother Goose. Several examples relate to rudimentary counting skills. Some relate to the alphabet, all help in the development of a child’s vocabulary, and early literacy. If "an apple a day will keep the doctor away", then perhaps a-rhyme a day, will keep school failure at bay. In My Very First Mother goose, Iona Opie has put together a very good collection of nursery rhymes, all the favorites and many more, an ideal bed time story book for little Children. There are over 60 rhymes, very well laid out, all with lovely illustrations, done in water colour by Rosemary Wells.
